Are Apricot Seeds Dangerous?
Or Are They A Cure For Cancer?
(Revised from Nov. 2013)
Vitamin B15 (DMG), and Vitamin B17 (Laetrile) are both surrounded by vicious controversy, and advocates on either side defend their “truths” with a vengeance. All the while, tens of thousands of people die every year from cancer (and other preventable diseases). But are they truly dying from a disease, or are they really dying from the “treatment” prescribed to them for their condition!
The undeniable fact is that life expectancy when undergoing conventional cancer treatment is far lower than it should be. And when the time comes that there are no more surgeries that can be done and chemo no longer “works,” you receive the worst directive imaginable: “I believe it is time that you get your affairs in order.” And all of this with no mention of potential holistic treatments.
Sadly, countless people rely only on the advice of their medical doctor straight to their death. I have even read stories of people who were scared to try natural treatments, such as laetrile or apricot seeds, despite a diagnosis of only months to live!
And what of those who do not have health insurance? I suppose the skeptics of holistic medicine believe that they should just suck it up and allow cancer to consume their body rather than trying a holistic treatment that is substantially cheaper than conventional medical treatments for cancer. Is this the world we now live in?
The Truth About The Toxicity Of Apricot Seeds
The issue with apricot seeds is that they contain cyanide. Now, knowing nothing more than this, one would have to be a bit “off their rocker” to eat apricot seeds because anything that contains cyanide is toxic. No need to know anything more on this subject, right?
Well, that’s exactly what the AMA, FDA, and pharmaceutical companies are counting on. However, what they also count on is you succumbing to their toxic chemo treatments and associated costs (see No Profits, No Cure for Cancer!); even if the cost is your own life.
Let’s take a closer look at the facts surrounding the toxicity of apricot seeds (laetrile) and see if the AMA, FDA, and pharmaceutical companies are giving you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
The banning of laetrile in the United States has to do with concerns about the possibility of cyanide toxicity. Laetrile (Vitamin B17) is found in apricot seeds. Potassium cyanide is an extremely dangerous substance; however, laetrile is very different. And here’s why:
We are frequently exposed to cyanide (natural and man-made) as it is found in countless places in our environment, including our water, soil, air and food sources, both plant and animal.
In fact, certain foods that we consume produce cyanide in small amounts within the body. Our bodies then convert the cyanide to thiocyanate.
Once the conversion takes place, the thiocyanate is safely eliminated via urine.
All of the negative attention given to apricot seeds and their cyanide content is amusing to me because so many other foods, including those we eat every day, also contain cyanide compounds!
I have put together a list of some of the many foods consumed on a daily basis that contain cyanide compounds. Mind you, this is a small list and by no means complete:
- Fungi
- Algae
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Soy
- Coffee beans
- Mustard seeds
- Yams
- Beechnuts
- Spinach
- Cabbage
- Turnip greens
- Macadamia nuts
- Collard greens
- Cauliflower
- Millet sprouts
- Grape seeds
- Buckwheat grains
- Turnips
- Raspberries
- Lima beans
- Blackberries
- Garlic
- Onions
- Mango
- Horseradish
- Strawberries
- Peanuts
- Flaxseeds
- Apple seeds
- Cherry pits
- Almonds
- Walnuts
- Dairy products
- Meats
- Apricot seeds
- Cassava root
Do you consider these foods dangerous?
Notice that I also highlighted and bolded cassava root (also known as tapioca or yucca) as well as apricot seeds.
You’ll see why in just a bit.
Medical Science Has Always Known The Truth!
A 2008 study published in Cancer Letters, an “International Journal providing a forum for original and pertinent contributions in cancer research,” focused on “multi-targeted prevention of cancer by sulforaphane.”
In case you are confused by the term sulforaphane, don’t be. You already know it. Sulforaphanes (SFN) is also known as isothiocyanates/thiocyanates, and are a major component of cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower.
“…Recent studies suggest that SFN offers protection against tumor development during the “post-initiation” phase and mechanisms for suppression effects of SFN, including cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction are of particular interest…”
And these studies are not limited to just a few. Further, the medical science world is aware of the studies and that “sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate from broccoli, is one of the most potent food-derived anticarcinogens.”
And yet Vitamin B17 still remains banished?
So what if these medical scientists really knew that laetrile is an effective cancer treatment without the long list of dangerous side effects that come with chemotherapy drugs? What if the cyanide component really is the “magic bullet” when it comes to killing cancer cells?
Well, guess what? We don’t have to speculate the “what ifs” because based on current research studies, it is actually happening!
But the biggest “slap in the face” is the following article from the UK written in 2000 and entitled (amazingly enough) ‘’Magic bullet’ of cyanide could kill cancer cells’! Check this out:
“Cancer patients of the future could be treated with a powerful “magic bullet” that attacks tumours with a cyanide cocktail derived from the cassava plant, scientists disclosed yesterday at the British Association’s annual meeting.
Researchers from Imperial College in London have devised a way of using cyanide, one of the most dangerous and fast-acting poisons, selectively to destroy cancer cells yet leave healthy tissue untouched…” (see Laetrile and Flawed Logic)
Remember the cassava plant? The article continues:
“Current cancer treatments are often toxic, with side-effects that limit their use. Also, cancers develop resistance to the therapies. Our approach suggests a more specific, safer treatment for a disease which touches one in three people at some point in their lives…although cyanide is deadly, it quickly dissipates in the human body.”
“…Studies in the test tube have shown that the approach can destroy tumour cells but leave normal cells untouched… For the first time we’ve been able to show we can kill cancer cells using this pro-drug activation approach…”
Well, well, well!
So research is proving that Vitamin B17 actually works and is safe!
We will now have at least two so-called “pro-drugs” (remember “pro-drug” CEP-7055 from Vitamin B15). Meanwhile, clinical trials are not set to begin on this latest “magic bullet cancer pro-drug” for at least another five years (and as of 2012, it is still on deck waiting).
Sad isn’t it. Thousands of people have used Laetrile effectively for decades!
And I have to wonder what the cost of these “pro-drugs” will be? I suppose as with the Big Pharma monopolies… the sky is the limit! (The Cost of a Cancer (Or is is…Profit?))
Now that alone should tell you something!
