Country Time Lemonade! Where’s The Lemons?
What Are You Really Drinking?
Country Time lemonade has been a summertime favorite for decades. There’s nothing like cooling off with an ice cold glass of lemonade to help take the edge off those dog-days of summer. Or perhaps as a fresh drink after your workout. But what if that nice glass of “lemonade” didn’t actually contain any lemons? Not even one little squeeze!
Well if you are drinking so-called lemonade from Country Time, that’s exactly what you are getting, or should I say not getting!
The list of ingredients includes:
Maltodextrin: An inexpensive starch used as a thickener, binding agent, and/or sugar, that is usually made from corn. And corn is nearly always genetically modified (GMO).
Soy lecithin: Made from genetically modified soybeans.
Artificial Colors: Such as Yellow 5 Lake, Red 40, and Red 40 Lake, made from who knows what. Did you know that most artificial food dyes are banned in other countries due to ill health effects including hyperactivity, allergies, and even cancer?
Interestingly, when you read the ingredient labels for both the “Regular” Lemonade and “Pink” Lemonade, you will notice that the only difference is the food dye. And what IS Pink Lemonade anyway? Are there pink lemons out there that we haven’t been told about? Hmmmmm….
If you really do prefer to drink lemonade that is colored pink, then simply add pomegranate, plums, cherries, raspberries or any other “red” colored fruit to a pitcher of filtered water. Then add squeezed lemons to taste along with a pinch of raw organic sugarcane. Raw organic sugarcane is my personal choice of sweeteners, but there are alternatives such as organic local honey or organic maple syrup (yes…it’s awesome!), as well as Stevia (though I do have some reservations about this alternative).
So if you are looking for an awesome glass of Lemonade, make it yourself! You’ll be glad you did and your body will thank you too!
