Celery Pineapple Smoothie
Did you know that celery has blood pressure lowering properties? It’s true!
Researchers found that phthalide lowers blood pressure by relaxing smooth muscles that line the blood vessels. And since celery contains a high amount of phthalide, a pilot study was conducted in 2013 to see if celery, indeed, reduces blood pressure. This is what they found:
“There was statistically significant decrease in both systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) at week 3 and week 6 compared to baseline.”
So in lieu of this amazing research, here is a delicious Celery Pineapple Smoothie for you to enjoy!
- 4 Celery Stalks
- 1 Pear or Apple
- A couple of cucumber slices
- 1/2 Cup Sliced Pineapple
- 1 medium Banana
- Squeeze of lemon or lime
- 2 tbsp. Honey
Extras and Options:
- Replace Pineapple with Peanut Butter (Of course this will make it a totally different Smoothie, but YUM!)
- 1/2 Cup Yogurt
Simply combine all ingredients in blender and enjoy!
