Brocade 3 – Separating Heaven & Earth
Revitalizing Your Life Energy (Qi) Through Motion – Series
Starting in Qigong stance, raise one hand and rest the back of the hand on the crown of the head. Simultaneously bring the other hand to the side of the rib cage with the palm down and fingers to the front.
Push both hands away from each other as if pressing the sky away with one and the earth away with the other.
Circle arms around and repeat on the other side. Breathing should feel natural.
After a few repetitions (8 on each side is recommended) finish in Qigong position.
This exercise carries both internal and external benefits. Externally, it stretches the arms and opens and closes the rib cage. Internally, it gently massages the spleen and stomach so as to improve digestive function.
A balanced spleen and stomach sustains a balanced mind and body. When out of balance we feel ungrounded, anxious and have a tendency to over-think and worry.
As the hands are moving in opposite directions, separating heaven and earth, the spleen qi ascends while the stomach qi descends.
