Perfect Post Workout Treat!
Looking for a post-workout boost? Or maybe you’re craving something super healthy and just a tad bit decadent? Well, we have something for you! One Word – YUM!
From the article Bananas for Bananas,
Bananas are high in potassium, a mineral, and electrolyte important for proper muscle function and digestion. Potassium helps to balance the effects of sodium on the body which is important for regulating blood pressure and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
A study conducted by the American Heart Association found:
“postmenopausal women who eat foods higher in potassium are less likely to have strokes and die than women who eat less potassium-rich foods.”
And did you also know that bananas contain prebiotics that feeds the good bacteria necessary to maintain a healthy gut which is important for optimal immune health?
But besides all of that, bananas just taste awesome! Here is one of the best smoothie recipes that I just love.
- 1 Ripe Banana
- 1/2 cup Organic Yogurt
- 1/4 cup Almond Milk
- 1-2 tbsp. Almond Butter
- 1/2 tsp. Local Honey
Combine all ingredients in a blender.
Alternatives and Extras:
- 1/4 Organic Milk
- 1/4 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 1-2 tbsp. Dark Chocolate Nibs
- Tbsp. of peanut butter
Post Workout Recovery:
Add 1-2 scoops of protein from whey, soy (soy is a bit controversial, however, if you do prefer soy, please use non-GMO only), egg, or pea.
Maca Protein is a favorite of mine!
And remember…Always organic!
